How To Fix Hair That’s Been Damaged By Hair Colour?

From long, luscious white blonde hair to devastation in one tragic salon appointment. Find out what went so wrong with Bella’s hair!

Let’s start from the beginning, we met Bella in 2018. With 4 inches of regrowth and broken, wispy white blonde ends, her first words were — I f**king hate my hair! She was angry, upset and infuriated, clearly!

From frustrated to fabulous

Bella’s hair was in need of some urgent attention from a previous hair disaster! Luckily, we were to the rescue! We started Bella on her personalised hair journey, our mission was to get her hair back to the beautiful blonde it once was.

(The one important thing you need to know and something we always talk about with hair transformations, is that it’s not going to magically fix itself in one appointment — unlike the instant damage that can occur.)

Looking at Bella’s hair, we decided it was best to just cut the ends off; they weren’t doing anything for her and made her hair look even worse. We needed a fresh canvas to work on!

(This is something so many women struggle with, they think by keeping their long but wispy hair, they still have “long hair!” But I promise you; that it never the case.)

In saying that, we didn’t chop her hair off to her ears, we just took the very wispy ends off to make a more blunt neat look.

How we restored Bella’s blonde!

We started with a full head of foils, only concentrating on the regrowth as her ends were already blonde and didn’t want to cause any further damage.

Followed by baby-fine back to back foils, so her overall look was very blonde with minimal natural showing. Want to know what’s trending for 2022 Here

While her foils were processing, we applied the Journey Overnight Hair Treatment to the ends of her hair, letting it soak up all the nutrients and hydration.

Finished with a toner at the basin and another Journey overnight hair treatment to re-hydrate what we just bleached.

We also used the Cortex Care Shampoo and Conditioner, which compliments and help aid the Journey Overnight Hydration Hair Treatment.

Back to the chair, we go

Once we are back at the chair, we ensure a microfibre towel is used to dry any excess water — Remember, Bella’s hair is very porous and brittle on the ends meaning you don’t want to rub or pull too much when the hair is wet, as it is at its weakest.

Time to apply a leave-in hair treatment; we used the Yen Body Last Defence leave-in hair treatment with biotin and prickly pear. Having a leave-in treatment will help with blowdrying and protect your hair from the elements of the day.

“Soo, when will my hair be long again?”

I believe we heard those words from Bella every appointment and I don’t blame her! It’s such a frustrating thing waiting for your hair to grow. When you are looking at your hair every day, it seems not to move at all! So annoying, right?!

Our advice to Bella

We kept reminding Bella that this is a journey, the reward is worth it! — Just like weight loss or fitness, we have to be consistent, patient and trust the process. We also suggested to her that she take some supplements, like collagen. Head to Dose&Co to see what’s right for you.

How does collagen help hair growth?

Collagen is an amino acid that produces keratin protein, promoting hair growth. Collagen helps to strengthen elasticity and improves overall health. Try adding a spoonful to your next coffee or tea!

Ensure your home haircare is up to scratch!

It’s all well and good to be at the salon but all the time and money spent on a beautiful colour needs to be taken care of at home. Don’t expect your hair to be in its best condition without a great home haircare routine. We have made it easy for you with our four-phase routine to help you with your hair at home. here

But how can home haircare make such a difference?

By taking care of your hair inside and out and constantly doing so, your hair continues to stay hydrated and strong, handling elements such as heat styling, sun, wind, and water better than someone who lacks a home haircare routine.

You’re also prepping your hair for your next colour service. Arriving to the salon with strong hydrated hair is less likely to break and prevent further damage. Continuous colouring can remove natural oils and hydration from your hair and scalp which in return, causes both to be dehydrated.

Tip: We recommend getting a hair treatment from your stylist after a colour service to help with re-hydrating your hair and scalp again.

Six months has passed!

We have been seeing Bella for six months now and what a difference! Her hair is now soft, shiny and a perfect tone of blonde! Yes, Bella is still saying her hair is short, but this will come in time as her hair grows. Bella is doing all the right things to promote healthy hair growth and looking after her hair and in another year; she will be at her goal.

I hope Bella’s story has helped you with your hair journey to understand that it will take time, to trust the process and that home hair care is a must! You will get there a lot faster if you take proper care of your hair.

Conclusion

Home hair care is essential! In one appointment, you can damage your hair beyond repair. It’s important to remember growing hair takes time, so you have to trust the journey.

I would love to read your stories of how your hair became so damaged beyond repair and if you have turned it around, or if you would like my help bringing your hair back to life!

A message from Bella;

Highly recommend!!

I have been using their treatment product Journey for over 6 months now and it’s absolutely amazing! My hair was completely damaged from a previous hairdresser and this treatment has literally saved my hair. I’m now getting it restored back to heath- even with continuously bleaching my hair.
Customer service is always outstanding as well. Could not recommend them or their products enough!!
