With all that is happening in today’s world, we sometimes need to disconnect, reconnect and be with ourselves.

Let’s discuss how I broke free from my social media addiction!

Here, I will talk about what my clients and I discuss in the salon and daily life, these are my personal feelings and experiences, I am not a psychologist or counsellor and recommend seeking further professional help if you are really struggling.

I want to touch on your mental wellness; about three months ago I was feeling extremely overwhelmed and found that my constant scrolling on social media was heightening my stress.

I judged myself, my business, and my relationship to other people on social media! – WHY?

I said to myself – what the hell am I doing?! This is just making me feel more and more inundated, and for what?

I said to myself, “that’s it! You’re taking a break from social media and you will reconnect again with yourself and values, no one else’s opinions or feelings, just mine!”

So, that’s exactly what I did! As a business owner it was a struggle as you would understand my business is online! So, to be completely honest with you, I still had the socials on my business phone however, I made sure that phone was only in my hands to check in on my business pages and not on my personal page.

At first, I was a little lost and I found my mind constantly going to pull up my phone to scroll for no bloody reason haha. I didn’t have any social media apps on there, I was just looking at my phone like an idiot. After a few days went by, I didn’t do that as much.

I must say – I feel so free, I am working more on my business and connecting deeper with the clients I have already got. I found business was going better than when I was on social media wasting time!

I am now reading books which is fantastic because I was not someone who read a lot of books; I always found myself to be too ‘busy’ you know, doing more important things like watching what everyone else is doing! But I can now say I am a reader and I’m enjoying it! I can’t believe I read my last book in 9 days – who am I? I am secretly proud of that effort.

I am connecting more with my close friends and family, actually having a conversation without phones, it’s such bliss!

I am getting out in nature more and being calm and peaceful. Slowing life down more and appreciating what I have. When you can do this, it is a magical feeling. I am also losing weight as I’m not sitting on social media watching other people work out and eat healthily.

I’m getting out there and learning about food, being outdoors, and being more active.

So, for now, social media is staying off my phone and I’m enjoying reconnecting with myself and others around me once again, taking time for myself and self-care. I never really knew how important it was to have that time. Time to just be.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, have anxiety or just need a break. Try removing social media from your phone, even just for two weeks, to give you that time to heal and slow down. Find your own thoughts, connect with nature and most importantly, time to love yourself.

I wish you peace, calmness and happiness on this little journey.

xx
